New Humble Community School (NHCS) is a growing K-Grade 9 public charter school just south of Calmar, Alberta. NHCS is inviting applications for a highly organized, collaborative, and detail-oriented professional to join our team as Secretary-Treasurer / Business Manager (Maternity Leave Coverage). The Secretary-Treasurer / Business Manager serves as a key member of the school's administrative team and plays an important role in supporting the financial stewardship, operational effectiveness, and regulatory compliance of the school. Working closely with the Superintendent, Board of Directors, school staff, and contracted financial service providers, the successful candidate will help ensure the efficient management of financial and administrative operations. As a growing charter school, NHCS recognizes that candidates bring diverse backgrounds and strengths. While the core responsibilities of the position are outlined below, there may be opportunities to tailor certain aspects of the role to align with the successful candidate's skills, experience, and areas of expertise.
This position is being posted as a maternity leave coverage opportunity. While employment beyond the leave period cannot be guaranteed, NHCS anticipates continued growth and evolving organizational needs. As a result, there may be opportunities for ongoing employment following the conclusion of the maternity leave, potentially with adjusted responsibilities that align with the needs of the school and the strengths of the successful candidate. This temporary full-time maternity leave position is expected to commence on August 17, 2026, although an alternative start date may be negotiated with the successful candidate. The anticipated term of the position will extend through the duration of the maternity leave.
Reporting directly to the Superintendent, the successful candidate will:
Financial Management
Manage accounts receivable, including school fees and invoicing
Process accounts payable and maintain accurate expenditure records
Complete payroll data entry and support payroll administration
Perform bank and corporate credit card reconciliations
Manage day-to-day financial transactions and records
Prepare School Resource Journal (SRJF) reporting based on reviewed financial data
Assist in the preparation and submission of financial accountability reports and other reports
Governance and Compliance
Receive and respond to Board correspondence related to the Secretary-Treasurer portfolio
Ensure records management practices meet legislative and organizational requirements
Produce reports in compliance with legal, Ministerial, Board, and Superintendent requirements
Operational Leadership
Assist with the administration of contracts, agreements, and partnerships with external organizations and service providers
Support the maintenance of insurance, inventory, and asset records
Assist in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of administrative procedures
Support school operations and organizational initiatives as assigned by the Superintendent
Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and service-oriented work environment
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field; equivalent combinations of education and professional experience will also be considered
Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, financial administration, or business operations
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting practices
Experience with accounting and payroll software
Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google applications, particularly Excel or Google Spreadsheet
Excellent organizational, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
The ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment
The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment
Experience working in an educational setting is considered an asset
Experience in human resources, facilities management, policy development, or operational leadership is considered an asset
